Welcome!

 

The Leadership in Health Equity for American Indian Research Development program (LEAD) supports incoming freshmen and transfer students with the tools they need to succeed at the University of Arizona. LEAD is a one-year, mentored program for AI/AN students that provide a welcoming and supportive learning environment. As part of LEAD you will receive:

 

  • Coursework and training in college life management and health equity

  • Educational enrichment through skills building

  • Leadership development training and community service opportunities

  • Research enrichment coursework, training, and peer and faculty mentorship

  • Cultural integration activities to honor AI/AN traditions

  • Networking opportunities to build friendships with other AI students

  • All expenses covered for a one-week workshop

  • Financial incentives for capstone project upon completion 

 

LEAD Program Eligibility Criteria

 

  • American Indian/Alaska Native tribal member

  • Accepted into the UA

  • Available to attend the pre-semester orientation program on June 1-5, 2020

  • 1st-year freshman or Community college transfer students

FAQ about LEAD:

How will COVID-19 affect my participation in the LEAD program?

  • Your application and acceptance to the program will depend on your commitment to the University of Arizona as a student for the FALL 2020 semester. Be sure to confirm your attendance and

What is the LEAD application deadline?

  • The priority deadline is April 30th, 2020 but the secondary Deadline is May 22nd, 2020.

How do I contact the LEAD coordinator?

How long does the LEAD program admission process take?

  • The first round of applications from the April 30th will be reviewed starting May 1st. Students will know if they were accepted in the program starting May 31st

When will I find out if I am accepted into the LEAD program?

  • Accepted students will be notified by May 1st if you turned in your application on April 30th. Or on June 1st if you turned in your application on May 22nd.

Is the week-long LEAD summer 2020 enrichment program mandatory to attend?

  • Yes, the LEAD Summer retreat is mandatory to attend but due to COVID-19, there will be some flexibility in the in-person sessions.

How can I check that all my application material has been received?

How do I apply to the LEAD program as an incoming freshman, or an incoming transfer student entering the fall 2020  semester?
  • By filling out our online application HERE, or download the application and have it postmarked by May 22, 2020.

What are the next steps I should take after I have been accepted into the LEAD program?

  • Be sure that you keep your acceptance email on file for your own records. Submit your profile picture Be sure that you take any surveys that are sent to you. Keep in contact with LEAD staff on any changes you encounter. Be sure to keep on the lookout for the dates of orientation.
